In anticipation of the grand opening of St. Mary’s Senior Living, the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana, have scheduled two informational sessions for prospective residents during the first full week of July.

Owens Hall, which will soon be St. Mary’s Senior Living, is currently undergoing renovations.

The meetings will take place at 3 p.m., and 5:30 p.m., on Thursday, July 8, at Providence Hall on the campus of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

Vicar and General Councilor Sister Lisa Stallings, SP, said those attending the meetings will receive information on how to apply for housing at the facility as well as have the chance to view floor plans for the apartments, designed for independent living.

The building, formerly known as Owens Hall, will include 33 one-bedroom apartments and 31 two-bedroom apartments, all of which will be based on restricted income. There will also be four market-rate apartments available. In addition, 20 percent of the units will provide housing opportunities for people with intellectual or developmental disabilities, a need identified in the Terre Haute area.

In 2015, the Sisters of Providence partnered with Flaherty & Collins Properties of Indianapolis to begin applying for tax credits through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) to help finance the project. In 2018, the project received almost $2 million in tax credits for the repurposing of Owens Hall.

Construction began in 2019 and the housing development is scheduled to open on Nov. 11, 2021.

Flaherty & Collins Vice President of Development Julie Collier said that the July 8 meetings will provide an in-depth look at the development and an overview of the amenities. In addition, she said people interested in living in the facility will have an opportunity to offer information for an application waiting list.

Collier also shared that those interested in applying to live in the building may access more information here.

Built in 1959, Owens Hall was initially used as housing for new members of the Congregation. Years later, it was repurposed as a residence hall for sisters and later included administrative offices.
