Sending us out to encourage new sisters

Our Sisters of Providence Congregation is consistently trying to reach new people that may not know about us and about Saint Mother Theodore Guerin. We also want to continue our relationships with our current friends, supporters and alums. We are also encouraging women to consider becoming a Sister of Providence! We believe that choosing a vocation as a vowed Catholic woman religious is a wonderful way to live out the Gospel message today while continuing to grow in one’s own faith.

One way we have reached new people and reconnected with friends is by being present with a booth at Catholic events such as the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) and the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress (RE Congress).

Sister Mary Montgomery (left) poses with Mother Theodore and a young woman who stopped by our booth to learn more about our foundress at NCYC in Indianapolis.

We just returned from NCYC where we talked to hundreds of Catholic teens and their chaperones about our mission and ministries. There were more than 25,000 attendees! We took home more than 150 prayer requests that our sisters will pray for daily. Interested people signed up to stay in touch and receive news about our ministries, sisters’ stories and our furry alpacas. And, young women came by the booth to tell us that they are considering becoming Catholic sisters. How encouraging!

As a Catholic convert, I once believed that the Catholic Church funded all Catholic organizations. After I began working for the Sisters of Providence, I realized that it is only by the support of our donors and friends that we are able to continue our mission and ministries.

In our last issue of HOPE Magazine, we asked for help in funding our New Membership presence at RE Congress, which will take place Feb. 21-23, in Los Angeles. Thanks to the generosity of some special donors, we have purchased an exhibit space and will be able to send four sisters to talk to women and religious educators about the exciting opportunities available to women interested in becoming Sisters of Providence. One donor has even offered accommodations at her home in Anaheim to help our sisters save money while they are there!

Look at all these prayer requests!

The support that each of you gives us is so life-giving! Your support communicates to us that you, too, see a future for Catholic sisters. That you believe in our mission to actively serve people in need, wherever that need is greatest. We follow in the footsteps of the disciples who were sent out on mission by Christ to spread the Gospel message of love, mercy and justice.

Thank you for investing in the future of the Sisters of Providence. Thank you for enabling us to reach out to thousands of faithful Catholics who are growing in their faith and who may wish to become Sisters of Providence. Please pray for us as the Religious Education Congress approaches, that God sends the right women for us to meet and share about the joy of becoming a Sister of Providence.
