You can help the Sisters of Providence continue to build the vital internship program at the White Violet Center for Eco-Justice.

We would not exist without interns.” Lorrie Heber, Director of White Violet Center for Eco-Justice, a ministry of the Sisters of Providence

What is the Internship program?

White Violet Center internships are hands on educational experiences for those hoping to learn more about farming and environmental sustainability.  Internships are a dynamic way of learning and utilizing individual talents to enhance the White Violet Center.  Interns further enhance all of our homes and our earth when they take their experience and new found knowledge into their communities.

What do interns do?

Interns work to plant, weed and harvest fresh produce in our 5-acre USDA certified organic garden and 2-acre orchard.  Interns also care for our flock of 150 laying chickens and a herd of about 40 alpacas.

Interns work, not just in the fields and on the pastures, also on record keeping, market selling and for our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Interns also present new ideas and practical solutions for making the ministry strong and more sustainable.

Why is the internship program critical to the Sisters?

The value of the internship program goes beyond just the work in the garden and pastures. Interns take their new knowledge into the world and build strong bonds with the Sisters of Providence.  Some interns have even become members of the community or become Providence Associates.

The monetary value of labor provided by interns for the farm enterprise is essential for its continued operations and results in a significant saving in potential staff cost. Without the work of interns on the farm, the ministry would be faced with either hiring staff to maintain its present level of income or be forced to reduce its scope of production.
