May 14, 2015: Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord

This is an up-close image of the statue created by Providence Associate Teresa Clark.

Remember Jesus will empower you whenever you act in His name.

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature.
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved;
whoever does not believe will be condemned.
These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages. They will pick up serpents with their hands, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

So then the Lord Jesus, after he spoke to them, was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God.
But they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through accompanying signs. (Mark 16:15-20)

Reflection:

Jesus’ very words are empowering. His disciples must have wondered, though, just how they were going to be able to go into the whole world to proclaim the gospel. So Jesus assured them they would be able to cure the sick and even drive out demons whenever they acted in His name. It was because of their belief in Him, they were empowered by His words.

Action:

Think about the power for good which Jesus gave to His disciples. Like them, do not be afraid to go into the world spreading the word of God in your own way. Remember Jesus will empower you whenever you act in His name.
