July 6, 2014: 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

footprints on the sand

God is always with us!

At that time Jesus exclaimed:
“I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to little ones.
Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.
All things have been handed over to me by my Father.
No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.”

“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” (Matthew 11:25-30)

Reflection:

The prayer “Footsteps in the Sand” tells us that God is always with us.

The Footprints Prayer

One night I had a dream…
I dreamed I was walking along the beach with God, and across the sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonged to me and the other to God.
When the last scene of my life flashed before us, I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that many times along the path of my life, there was only one set of footprints.

I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in my life.
This really bothered me, and I questioned God about it.
“God, You said that once I decided to follow You, You would walk with me all the way; but I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why in times when I needed You the most, You should leave me.”

God replied, “My precious, precious child. I love you, and I would never, never leave you. During your times of sadness and suffering, when you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.”

Action:

Each day this week take a moment to remember that God is always with you…on your happy days, as well as during your days that are sad and troublesome.
