Reception planned for Sister Jody O’Neil’s art exhibit
An opening reception for Sister Jody O’Neil’s “Textures” exhibit is planned for 7-9 p.m. Friday, May 20, in Providence Center at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. The reception is open to the public.
Sister Jody is artist in residence at Roethele Studio at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.
Her exhibit will feature 20 canvases ranging in size from 12-inch square to 48 by 72 inches. The majority of her work is white-on-white acrylic textured subject matter with nature themes. A few of the pieces will range from a hint of color to full-bloom color.
“Last summer, I had the opportunity to visit the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I felt a kinship with Georgia’s emphasis in creating imagery that expresses what she called ‘the wilderness and wonder of the world as I live in it,’” Sister Jody said.
Sister Jody works with various mediums. Her work has been described as peaceful and reflective.
“Throughout my life, I have been intrigued with water and its transparent and glistening qualities. A portion of my exhibit will reflect the colors and movement of the sea, especially the inspiration I find in the Gulf of Mexico,” she said.
Sister Jody’s creations will be on display in Providence Center through early July.
