March 13, 2011: 1st Sunday of Lent

Each day of Lent pray for perseverance, pray to be faithful in doing what you have chosen to do.

Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And he fasted forty days and forty nights… (Matthew 4:1)

Every year on the first Sunday of Lent one of the gospel writers presents us with the story of Jesus’ forty days in the desert. This is a logical gospel to hear since the season of Lent is forty days long. We know that Jesus was tempted during his time in the desert.
In spite of the hardships and inconveniences Jesus experienced as a human being, he did not give in to the devil’s temptations.

Action:

Everyone is invited to do penance during Lent.
Whatever you choose should be challenging and make you a stronger Christian at the end of the season. You will be tempted to give up on your promises because forty days is a long time.
Each day of Lent pray for perseverance, pray to be faithful in doing what you have chosen to do.
