January 16, 2011: 2nd Sundy in Ordinary Time

What can you do to give life to people around you, your family members, friends and classmates?

John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is the one of whom I said, ‘After me comes one who ranks before me, for that one was before me. … I came baptizing with water, that the Christ might be revealed to Israel.”…He is “the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.”
(John 1:29-31, 33)

As the Christmas season ends, we return to Ordinary Time.
For many Sundays to come, we will hear in the gospels stories about Jesus teaching and healing.
In today’s gospel John the Baptist is heard from one final time. John tells us he baptized with water, but Jesus would baptize with the Holy Spirit. At our baptism water was poured over us; we received the gift of the Holy Spirit. With the help of the Holy Spirit we have the ability to give life to our world.

Action:

Our world needs life! The Holy Spirit is within us and helps us give life.
What can you do to give life to people around you, your family members, friends and classmates?
