December 26, 2010: Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph

Show your love for your family during this Christmas season.

An angel of God appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother and flee to Egypt and remain their till I tell you: for Herod is about to search for the child to destroy him. He rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt and remained there until the death of Herod. (Matthew 2:13-15)

The family life of Jesus was anything but uneventful. As we hear in today’s Gospel from St. Matthew, the family had to flee their home. They lived as refugees in Egypt until Herod’s death. There are many other stories in the gospels that tell us about the life of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Sometimes we forget that they were real people and, like us, experienced most of what we go through in family life. One thing is for sure ~ they loved one another.

Action:

Show your love for your family during this Christmas season.
Here are a few practical ways to do that: listen when someone is speaking, be careful of what you say and how you say it, don’t insist on having things your way, forgive when you are hurt and let go.
