How we serve

Sisters in ministry

If you think about it, being Sisters of Providence isn’t just a ministry, it’s who we are. Individual sisters serve as teachers, parish life coordinators, nurses and advocates for people who are poor, elderly or ill. Sisters also serve in formal, Congregation-sponsored ministries like providing spiritual programs, events and retreats at the Woods or encouraging women to become new Catholic sisters with the SPs.

When we aren’t at “work,” you may find us in personal or group prayer or running a 5K marathon. You’ll find sisters within the communities in which we serve - at the grocery store, at a local festival or as a patient in the hospital.

Sharing the Gospel is a part of everything we do.

Saint Mother Theodore Guerin

“Unite our actions, however little they may be, with those of [Jesus]; unite our prayers with his prayers, our work with his work, our meals, our repose with his.”

Saint Mother Theodore Guerin

1798-1856, Foundress of the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods

You'll find sisters involved in education, social services, healthcare, and spiritual, art and music ministries.

Living a life of love, mercy and justice in service of others is a way of life.

“My ministry at this present time is as a pastoral associate in a parish in southern Indiana. And so my day is very, very much engaged with people, often on a one-on-one, in hospitals, in health care, … doing a lot of work with people in grief.”
