In 1905, at the request of the pastor of St. Ann Church in Washington, D.C., the Sisters of Providence purchased property and opened what was first called Immaculata Seminary, including elementary, secondary and postgraduate programs.
The college closed in 1978, with the elementary and high schools closing in 1986.
Until 1965, the high school was called Immaculata High School. In 1965, the name was changed to Immaculata Preparatory.
