2014 Youth Art Contest
2014 Youth Art Contest winners
Area youth were invited to create artwork based upon the theme “Saint Mother Theodore Guerin – A woman and her work.” The many thoughtful art pieces we received highlighted Saint Mother Theodore Guerin’s work in ministry in America to establish the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind. Saint Mother Theodore worked in many areas that are still in use today by teaching, gardening, caring for the poor and loving animals.
Top winners in each of the four age divisions (5-7, 8-10, 11-13 and 14-18) will receive cash prizes, ribbons and certificates. Each young artist who enters the contest will receive a participant ribbon and certificate.
During her lifetime, Mother Theodore was:
- a pioneer;
- an administrator/leader;
- a firefighter;
- a counselor;
- a public relations/marketing specialist with the Wabash Valley Courier;
- an educator/teacher;
- a builder (helped build the Academy that is now Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College);
- an herbalist;
- a pharmacist;
- an environmentalist;
- and a missionary.
Mother Theodore came to the U.S. to teach children and to give out medicine to the sick – these were just a few of the “gifts” given to Mother Theodore to serve other people.
