Educational/Family Services, located at 3850 U.S. Highway 150 in West Terre Haute, Ind., provides basic education and GED instruction for adults and after-school tutoring for children. All services are offered free of charge. A program of Guerin Outreach Ministries, Inc., Educational/Family Services serves residents of West Terre Haute and neighboring communities, many of whom lack economic resources.
Educational/Family Services was founded by the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods in 1996. Last year 50 students received either after-school tutoring or assistance through our adult education programs, including our most recent offering: helping adults prepare to take the military’s ASVAB test.
Our volunteer tutor pool is made up of retired Sisters of Providence, students at nearby Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and members of the community. We always welcome new volunteer tutors as well as donations: including money for operating expenses and gifts-in-kind such as after-school snacks.
