A student from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College volunteers tutorin a student at Educational/Family Services in West Terre Haute, Ind.

Educational/Family Services, located at 3850 U.S. Highway 150 in West Terre Haute, Ind., provides basic education and GED instruction for adults and after-school tutoring for children. All services are offered free of charge. A program of Guerin Outreach Ministries, Inc., Educational/Family Services serves residents of West Terre Haute and neighboring communities, many of whom lack economic resources.

Educational/Family Services was founded by the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods in 1996. Last year 50 students received either after-school tutoring or assistance through our adult education programs, including our most recent offering: helping adults prepare to take the military’s ASVAB test.

EFS Director Penny Sullivan helps an adult student study for GED testing.

Our volunteer tutor pool is made up of retired Sisters of Providence, students at nearby Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and members of the community. We always welcome new volunteer tutors as well as donations: including money for operating expenses and gifts-in-kind such as after-school snacks.

For more information, contact Penny Sullivan, coordinator, at 812-535-4206 or by e-mail at efspenny@frontier.com.

Come out and support Educational/Family Services at our bowling fundraiser June 23 in Terre Haute. More information and a registration form is available here.
