Note: The Saint Mother Theodore Guerin Feast Day is Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, with a Eucharistic Liturgy scheduled at 11 a.m. (EST) in the Church of the Immaculate Conception at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Ind. The public may attend and all faith traditions are welcome.
The following novena was composed by Mary Ellen Gremelspacher, class of 1962 Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.
Saint Mother Theodore, again and again you wrestled with unrelenting misunderstanding between you and the local bishop. It obviously caused you great emotional and spiritual pain even though you were supported by your companions, your spiritual director and your own prayerful insights. Today, throughout the church, similar conflicts continue to divide the souls of the faithful, and it brings scandal to the whole world.
In your lifetime, you relied on Saint Joseph, the Patron of the Church, to join with you in asking for God’s Providence to intervene….and it did! I can only imagine the great love that flows between your two sacred souls…as you and Saint Joseph share the overwhelming joy of God’s will being done in heaven — as we desire it to be done on earth.
I ask for you and Saint Joseph to intercede for me today.

More about novenas:
A novena traditionally is made up of nine consecutive days of prayer. Usually the petitioner asks a favorite saint to act as a spiritual companion and prayer partner. The chosen saint acts as a powerful intercessor — since we are assured he or she has lived a holy life and is now in heaven. As we join our sincere prayers with that of a saint, we naturally become more bonded to the spiritual qualities of that holy person. Therefore we trust we will have a favorable answer to our petitions, and we also hope to become more spiritually mature by uniting ourselves with this holy guide.
