Letter from Sister Denise

Dear Companions on our Providence Journey,

Our Annual Report’s format may be smaller and more compact, but our gratitude is as deep and as authentic as always!

Those of you who have heard from me before know what touches me most each time we receive your gift. Certainly, we appreciate and need the monetary support — no doubt! On another level, however, I view each gift as a vote of confidence in us, as an expression of appreciation for our life and our mission, as a statement of your belief in our present and future. In a wonderful way, each gift of yours says to me “we’re with you on this journey — we’re in it together.” For your belief in us and for your friendship, I thank you in the name of all Sisters of Providence.

In these unsettled economic times, your gifts take on an added dimension. As in the Gospel story of the Pharisee and the widow, we know that many of you are giving “not from your abundance, but from your want.” Thank you.

I close with a quote from Saint Mother Theodore (no surprise there!). I have been holding it in my heart for the past month as I struggle to trust in Providence in the day to day which often has its anxious moments. It is for me an odd kind of comfort to know that Mother Theodore knew that trust and anxiety often co-exist in our minds and hearts. I offer these words of hers for your reflection and for our common prayer:

“His protecting hand has sustained us in so visible a manner that we cannot fail to see in it the attention of his Providence.”

Let us pray for one another as we live these challenging times.

In God’s most loving Providence,

Denise Wilkinson, SP
General Superior
